In the near future I will be removing the Respawn option on the death menu. It is hard to judge the difficulty of the server when a Player can just click respawn and their PC gets up and starts fighting again. Any elements of caution and preparation are unnecessary when the Respawn button is there as a fall back.
In place of the Respawn will be a standard perma-death System which will function as follows.
- PC dies.
- PC Items dropped in bag.
- PC corpse created and placed at point of death.
- PC "soul" transported to a "fugue" plain to await resurrection.
- The PC can then be raised or resurrected by another PC using the required scroll or spell. At this point the PC will be transported from the "fugue plane" and back to the location where there corpse is.
To prepare for this change there are a number of things that players can do to avoid frequent occurrences of death:
1.Potions.
Ghostly Visage potions are your friend. They are purple and available from Daramain’s Tower. On use you will become immune to minor damage for about 5 minutes of game time.
Potions of Aid (Temple of the Open Tome) give you additional temporary hit points and increase your chance of hitting stuff.
Potions of Bull’s Strength, Cat’s grace, Owl’s Wisdom, Fox’s Cunning and Eagle’s Splendor increase your character’s Strength, Dexterity, Wisdom, Intelligence and Charisma respectively.
Very handy.
2. Healing.
Stock up on healing kits. Get them from the Temple of the Open Tome or "Folin" the Dwarven merchant in Darkly's rest (ground floor). Potions of Cure Light Wounds are also available from the temple.
3. Buddy up.
Both "Tarias" (Darkly's Rest) and "Jander" (Temple of the Open Tome) can be hired. They are both clerics so they can heal you in a tight spot. If you are knocked unconscious you can still command them to heal you by right clicking on them and selecting the "heal me" option.
4. Battleground preparation.
During Character creation spend a few skill points on "Craft Trap" and "Set Trap". Early on there will be many fights that will be beyond you. But by laying a sequence of traps and leading monsters through it victory will be yours. Traps can be bought from “Tebryn Menthenthur” in "A Dockers Thirst" (Lasthold South Jetty) or you can make Spike traps by harvesting Caltrops from thorn bushes or electrical traps by harvesting quartz crystals.
5. Short of Cash?
"Daramain" (Daramain's Tower) will pay gold for skeleton knuckles (Lasthold Crypts) and fire beetle bellies (Cave in North-west Lasthold).
"Achler" (Western Edge of Lurkwood) will pay gold for lumber. Get yourself an axe (Folin, Darkly’s rest) and start chopping.
6. Two hands?
Unless you have chosen the feats "Two weapon fighting" & "Ambidexterity" during Character creation. It's better to stick to single weapon or weapon and shield fighting. The chance of hitting anything otherwise is slim to none.
